Hot and Humid and Progress

The air conditioner went out last night.

Wouldn't be so much of a problem, I guess, except that I live in the Arkansas River Valley. In summer, the American South is notorious for its soul-sucking humidity.

Strong thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, too, so no opening of the windows (which I'm now closing before the temperature rises any further).

On the writing front: Though no real progress this weekend on the fantasy novels, I've been at work on the sideways modern novel set in the Southwest. I can't tell much about that novel; it's so different that I've never read or heard of a storyline quite like it, and I don't want to give it away before 1) it's finished, and 2) a publisher buys it. Then I'll promote it like crazy.

Our air handler just went out on our upstairs unit. Ug. At least we are farther north and it hasn't been that hot...yet.

Hmmmmm.....mystery novel in the works......

Keanan brain is working overtime in a creative maelstrom....

Oh my.....

On a more prosaic note, I hope your air conditioner is all better soon. Humidity...ugh.

Summer in the Fort. Nadies and Valley heat what a combo. It's plenty hot here today with increasing humidity, but no sign of much needed rain. Listen for the sirens and leave the cellar door ajar. Pappy

I think I'll give you a call AND leave this pointless comment. I have to pace myself with the whole transition to leaving comments vs. giving you a phone call.

I spent enough time in New Orleans to know that lack of AC can be downright miserable. Sounds like a good time to go hang out at the mall.

Willow - I spent most of my childhood in the Pacific Northwest, and remember thinking that only rich people had a/c. (laugh) Didn't find out it was a necessity till I moved to Arkansas the first time at age 14.

Lavinia - Well, it's a mystery to y'all! Actually, there is a little mystery to the story, but it's mostly a predator-and-prey kind of tale.

Tex - Apparently, I was so overcome by the heat that I slept (without intending to) right through the storms. The electricity went out at some point, so the clock was flashing at me when I opened my eyes. Otherwise, all is well. Except for the a/c, of course.

BUBBA! - Got your message, sent one back. Love ya, bro.

Jeff - Yeah, if I'm miserable here, I could always be farther south. I think I'll stay here. (And I considered hanging out at Wal-Mart, the closest thing my town has to a mall, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it.)

You have my sympathies on the dead AC unit. That is not cool, to have that go out in high heat. I've never been one to like the heat, but humidity is even worse. Good luck sweating it out.

Sounds like you've some good writing ideas popping. Look forward to hearing more promotion about the new novel.

Eagle - Hopefully, the a/c will be operational some time tonight. It's too hot to sleep, and too hot to think. This recalls my teen years, when my family lived in a house that only had a noisy attic fan, and we did chores in early morning or well after sundown.
